ATTOH. Employers' Liability check

If you employ anyone, this cover isn't optional

Employers' Liability insurance is a legal requirement for almost every UK company with staff — including part-time staff, and in many cases family members on the payroll. Most directors know that. Far fewer know what it costs to be caught without it.

Up to £2,500 for every day you are uninsured. The Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969 sets the penalty per day, not per offence. A gap of one month is a five-figure exposure before anyone has made a claim against you.

We check one thing, free: whether your company looks legally required to hold it, based on the employee numbers in your own filed accounts at Companies House. You'll get a plain answer and the reasoning. Nothing is sold to you on this page.

What you get back

Whether the duty applies

Based on the headcount in your filed accounts, plus the common exemptions most summaries leave out — such as companies whose only employee is also the sole owner.

What the law actually says

The specific obligation, the minimum cover level, and the certificate-display rule that catches people out at inspection.

An introduction, only if you want one

If you'd like quotes, we can introduce you to an FCA-authorised broker. We're an introducer — we don't advise on cover, arrange policies, or take a fee from you.

Your company name or number is enough. We'll reply with the answer and the reasoning — usually the same working day.
